Dr. Weissman returns to MIHP
Joel S. Weissman, Ph.D., has returned to the MIHP after spending two years as Senior Health Policy Advisor to the Secretary of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services During his time with the Commonwealth, he led a multi-million dollar statewide multi-payer medical home pilot project and provided strategic thinking around issues concerning payment reform, quality of care, racial-ethnic disparities, and the budgetary impact of universal health coverage in Massachusetts. Immediately before his official return, Dr. Weissman spent two months as visiting faculty at the Mexico National Institute of Public Health in Cuernavaca. Dr. Weissman plans to continue his work in the areas of quality and patient safety, the care of vulnerable populations, health care financing including uncompensated care, drug policy, and academic-industry relationships in biomedical research. He also resumes his position as Associate Professor of Health Policy at Harvard Medical School. We are delighted that Dr. Weissman -- an energetic, insightful, and creative colleague -- has returned to MIHP after his service to the Commonwealth.
